Position Description: Director of Connecting Ministries
Status: Part-time salaried employee
Schedule: 20 hours per week generally
Compensation: $12,000.00 annually (position feasibility subject to fiscal review)
General Description: The Director of Connecting Ministries will serve in relationship building role with the congregation, reporting directly to the Senior Pastor. The position will serve to strengthen the congregation’s ability to meaningfully connect all members with one another, the congregation as a whole, and a meaningful ministry using their God-given gifts and abilities.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop, resource, and coordinate small group ministries
a. Promote the development of new groups
b. Provide organizational support during major campaigns
c. Provide group leaders with yearly training
d. Provide resources and support for on-going groups
e. Maintain a list of all active small groups (formal and informal)
2. Develop and sustain new small groups and maintain a connection and relationship with these groups
3. Lead classes for disciples joining the congregation on a quarterly basis
a. Oversee the new member orientation process
b. Conduct personal interviews with all new members to learn about each person’s faith history, previous involvement in church and/or community organizations to connect them with ministries at HSLC
4. Administer ministry inventories (i.e. Hearts and Hands, Spiritual Gifts, LifeKeys) to all members, including each new member class.
5. Oversee ALPHA and other faith formation ministries that invite and encourage people in the surrounding communities to become engaged in discipleship at HSLC
6. Meet periodically with staff and Congregational Council for the purpose of sharing information gathered during the process of interviews with new members
7. Manage computer membership databases, updating as necessary with pertinent information about members, providing regular reports to staff and Congregational Council about member gifts
8. Attend monthly staff meetings
9. Participate in continuing education as requested
10. Promote the growth of all HSLC’s ministries as an expression of the congregation’s mission, vision and goals
11. Develop and maintain relationships with outside community agencies and social ministry groups
Minimum Qualifications & Skills
1. Self-starter that can work independently and with limited supervision
2. Experience in congregational leadership
3. Proven ability to understand people’s experience, skills and talents, and be able to connect them to congregational ministries
4. Demonstrated experience working with adults and adult volunteers
5. Experience teaching adults and leading small groups
6. Strong organizational skills
7. Strong computer skills including PowerPoint, Excel and Word
8. Active member of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church
9. Exceptional communication (verbal and written) and relationship skills
10. Flexible to schedule needs and changes
