Some Congregational Goals for 2017

In response to the 2016 CAT survey of the congregation, the council has reviewed and adopted some specific goals for 2017, which I want to share with you.  The specific goals come out of the four main goals (in italics) the congregation identified in 2016.

 1. Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to reach new people and incorporate them into the
     life of the church.

· A congregation-wide goal of 26 first time visitors for 2017

· Council spends approximately 30 minutes reviewing Outreach plans collected by Director of

Outreach and decide on 1 or 2 things to implement and then assess effectiveness of efforts.

· Target unchurched youth with new activities – (summer concert series planned)

· Create cards for food distribution about HSLC and our worship times

2. Provide more opportunities for Christian education and spiritual formation at every age and stage
    of life.

· Offer a Marriage Retreat for interested members of the congregation.

· Engage adults and Children in Sunday school with follow-up phone calls if they are not coming
  regularly on Sunday mornings.

3. Develop ministries that work toward healing those broken by life circumstances.

· Explore options for a year round food distribution.  What would it take logistically to distribute
food during the winter months in Grace Hall? (Present options to council in time for 2018
  budget   planning).

· Create a “community resources” bulletin board and/or brochure that highlights the ministries
avail  able to those in need in the greater Flint community.

· Expand the visibility of our “helping hands” ministry through invitations to guest speakers who
  rep  resent the organization/

4. Strengthen the process by which members are called and equipped for ministry and leadership.

· Utilize a spiritual gifts inventory, and if possible do a short summer sermon series on Spiritual

· Distribute Time & Talent sheets to every active member of the congregation

· Ask all who are council members or other team leaders to attend a Via De Christo weekend

If we work together as a congregation, the council believes these goals are achievable, and while not every goal applies to everyone (some apply to staff or council only), we hope you will help us work toward accomplishing them.  Of course, these goals are not the only things we will be working on as a congregation this year.  The following page has more of the plans we have for the summer months.  Take a look at the rest of this update for more faith formation and fellowship experiences and join us in June for the semi-annual congregational meeting when we will elect new members of council and provide additional updates for the last half of the year.
