Welcome, Tom Fortier
Tom Fortier is a 1978 graduate of the Westminster Choir College of Ryder University located in Princeton, New Jersey where he earned a performance degree in classical organ. Tom studied with concert organists Joan Lippincott and Donald McDonald. While at Westminster, Tom minored in voice, singing in chorus under the baton of Joseph Flummerfelt, Leonard Bernstein, James Levine, Robert Shaw, and Michael Tilson-Thomas. In addition, Tom sang in chorus on two Columbia recordings featuring the New York Philharmonic directed by Leonard Bernstein. One of the recordings, the Haydn “Lord Nelson Mass” was nominated for a Grammy award in 1978.
A dedicated church musician since 1976, Tom has served as organist for the Pleasantville United Church of Christ – Chalfont PA, and First Presbyterian Church - Ramsay NJ. He has also served as Director of Music / Organist for the Farnumwood Presbyterian Church - Flint MI, and the Bethany United Methodist Church – Clio, MI. His most recent church music assignment as Director of Music and Worship for Holy Spirit Lutheran began in September of 2009.
Equally adept in classical and theater organ playing, Tom has performed many organ concerts over the years. Most notably is a series of theater programs performed in 1990, 1992, 1994, 1998, and 2006 for the Empire State Musical Instrument Museum located on the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, New York. Tom regularly plays organ overtures for films at the Temple Theater in Saginaw Michigan, and at the Redford Theater in Redford Michigan.
